Intro to EOs

Five years ago...my first experience using EOs (essential oils) and I haven't looked back.  I have always taken care of our family's health needs at home as naturally as possible using herbs and supplements.  When I became pregnant with Samuel (5yo) and started seeing my midwife for the first time, she introduced me to doTERRA EOs and I am so thankful.

I love them because they are so effective, simply to use, smell great and are used encourage good health, prevent sickness and disease and treat a wide variety of illnesses - minor colds, skin ailments, the flu on up to cancer!  doTERRA oils are the ONLY certified pure therapeutic grade essential oil there is.  FDA says oils have to be at least 10% pure to put "pure" on the label.  doTERRA does 3rd party testing to assure they are certified 100% pure therapeutic grade.  No additives, no fillers, no chemicals, no pesticides.  All organic grown.  I'll include the link to my online site at the bottom of this post.  It has information on exactly what EOs are, how they are processed and more.  You will also be able to use that link to sign up and start using them in your own family.  You'll be glad you did!

So, let's start with one of many testimonies we have using doTERRA oils in our family.  This one is from a few years back but we have continued to see the same results.

Most of you know that we don't "do" doctors and treat at home using herbs and other natural remedies. Last week my midwife share with me about using essential oils for every day health and illnesses. I have used them in the past but mainly just in things like diaper rash ointment and diaper wipe solution. I never knew about the other benefits.

Yesterday she (my midwife) offered to share some with me to use on the sickies here and on those of us that are still well. Connor was running a high fever of a little over 103 and ibuprofen and Tylenol were not taking it down. So, I called her and asked if one of the ones she gave me would work to take a fever down. I did and she told me where on the body and how often to apply it.

During the night Connor woke up with a high fever of 103* again. I went and got the peppermint oil and applied it to the back of his neck and the bottoms of his feet. After just two applications within a 30 minute period - his fever was gone!! It was awesome! Medication takes much longer to work if it even does. He also had a dry cough so I applied a blend of oils that she had given me and it stopped immediately!!

Sweet & Sour Chicken

This only makes four servings so for many of my friends this will have to be quadrupled - at least. :)

Ingredients:
2# chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 C flour
1 t ginger
1/4 t pepper
2 t garlic salt
1 t onion powder
1/2 t seasoning salt
1/2 C oil
3/4 C sugar
2 1/2 T cornstarch
2 1/2 t white vinegar
1 C water
2 T soy sauce
3 T ketchup

Directions:
In container with a lid, mix flour, ginger, pepper, garlic salt, onion powder, and seasoning salt.  Shake to mix.  Add chicken pieces, put lid on and shake to coat.

Heat oil over medium heat.  Drop in floured chicken and fry until done.  Drain on paper towels.

In large saucepan, whisk sugar, cornstarch, vinegar, water, soy sauce, and ketchup.  Heat until mixture boils, stirring constantly.  Add chicken pieces once mixture is thickened and toss to coat.

Serve over rice.

Slow Cooker Chicken Enchilada Soup

fresh cilantro, chopped
garlic, chopped - Lots! :)

Smothered Chicken

Ingredents:
bacon
chicken breasts (thawed)
mushrooms, sliced
shredded cheddar or mexican cheese

Directions:
Cut bacon into small pieces and then fry.  Set aside.

Fry chicken breasts in a little bacon grease.  Yes, fattening and unhealthy but oh so tasty!
After all chicken is cooked, put in a baking dish and top with bacon, mushrooms and cheese.  Put in oven until all melty.  That's my made up word. :)

Thinking about topping them with caramelized onions next time.  I love caramelized onions!

3/4 C powdered sugar
1 T vanilla
1/2 t salt
3 C flour
2 C mini morsels (semi sweet)
1/2 C finely chopped nuts
powdered sugar

Directions:
Mix butter, 3/4 C powdered sugar, vanilla and salt until creamy.  Gradually mix in flour.  Stir in morsels and nuts.  Shape into 1" balls.  Bake on ungreased sheet at 375 for 12 min.

Place on cooling rack and sift powdered sugar over them.

Makes about 5 dozen.

Twice Baked Potatoes

Ingredents:
potatoes
bacon
sour cream - about 1/2 cup
green onions, chopped
cheddar cheese, shredded - save some for the tops
salt and pepper

Directions:
I bake my potatoes on the racks after I've spread oil on them.  350 for about an hour.

Cut them in half and scoop out insides.  In a mixing bowl, mix potatoes and other ingredients.  Scoop into skins and top with more cheese.  Bake about half an hour until all melty.

Family. Food. doTERRA. Coffee

We're a family that loves food, doTERRA oils, and most importantly coffee!  I (Alyssa) decided it was time that the Goodhue family had a blog to post on.  My mom has never been much of a blogger, I myself love blogging.  I plan to get her addicted to it, as I am.  Anyways, I'm hoping that this will continue to be an active blog, and you all will get an inside look on the big family life.

We will be posting pictures, lots of pictures, adventures, silly things the kids did or said, how useful doTERRA oils are, sharing recipes, testimonies and life lessons, family outings, or our big 2 week shopping trips! :)

So stay tuned and keep checking back, for more updates!  Leave us some kind words in the comment, or a question about big families! We'd be happy to answer any questions for you! :)
